Decorative Cornice and Coving Restoration in London

The Invisible Painter is carrying out a decorative restoration project next to Horse Guards Parade in London. We have been using a product called PeelAway7® (http://www.peelaway.co.uk) to remove years of paint build up from 200 yr old cornicing and coving. This process required great patience to carefully remove all of the paint without damaging the decorative finish. This job required not only paint removal and plasterwork restoration of cornicing and coving, but also stripping down the balustrades and stone steps throughout the property.

This is part of a 1 million pound refurbishment of the property, and all works have been agreed with Westminster Heritage to ensure we are meeting their expectations. The works have taken over 3 months to complete, and have left the client delighted with the finish.

Lime Wash Project at Dixton Manor in the Cotswolds

The Invisible Painter has just completed a Lime washing of the garden facing wall of Dixton Manor (http://www.dixtonmanor.co.uk/), a Grade 2 listed Cotswold Manor House in Gloucestershire.

One of the facts that not everyone understands is that a lime wash is not a painting technique, although it may be applied with paintbrushes. In fact, the lime wash is more of a staining technique. The properties of the lime seep into the pores of the masonry and effectively become part of the material. Over time, the natural ageing process will give the lime wash a certain glossy patina that is considered to be very attractive.

The Lime wash was provided by Francesca’s Paints (http://www.francescaspaint.com/), a boutique paint manufacturer in Battersea London.

The Invisible Painter can carry out Lime washing projects to a high standard throughout the UK and in London. If you have any questions regarding techniques or a project that requires decorators experienced in applying Lime wash , please give us a call and we would be happy to help.

French Polished Woodwork – Mayfair

The Invisible Painter has just completed the French polishing of the handrail and doors in a prestigious residential block in Mayfair, London.

French polishing is recognised as one of the most beautiful finishes achievable, your woodwork will dazzle like never before with a deep colour and high gloss finish. Although less hard-wearing than modern varnishes, french polish has the benefit of being easier to maintain as spot repairs can be blended in without requiring a full re-coating.

French Polished Handrails and Bannisters

The project in Mayfair has involved professionally stripping the handrail and doors back to their original surface, re-staining the woodwork followed by 6 costs of shellac to get that beautiful polished finish.

The Invisible Painter offer various shellac polishing services for handrails, bar tops and wooden paneling. If you have a requirement for French Polishing in London please get in touch.

Exterior Redecorations – Spring / Summer 2011

Summer is finally upon us and we are now into the external decorating season.

At The Invisible Painter we have some new exciting products that we are using this year, that will save you money by extending the periods of redecoration by up to 40%.

For woodwork, we are now using Sikkens Rubbol XD which is a high performance exterior high gloss. A genuine low-maintenance solvent-borne opaque finish which replaces Sikkens Rubbol SB. Sikkens Rubbol XD paint offers excellent outdoor performance due to its use of a unique patented styrene acrylic reinforced resin formulation which offers considerably extended maintenance cycles.

For masonry we are now using Johnstone’s Self Cleaning Masonry paints. The new exterior coating features microscopic nano particles, which at one billionth of a metre are invisible to the human eye. These tiny particles adhere to the surface, transforming the normal crater effect of a painted surface into an extremely smooth finish to which dust and dirt simply cannot adhere.

As well as utilising the very latest technology, the nanometric paint also harnesses a more natural force – rain. Whereas most standard masonry products repel water, Johnstone’s Stormshield Self Cleaning Masonry works in the opposite way as it actually attracts water to its surface. Any dirt particles that may be present will therefore be simply washed away by the rain to leave a streak-free finish.

Why not give us a call to discuss your external painting and decorating requirements.
